Mitchell at GearDiary decided to put Apple’s claims about the resilience of the touch’s screen to the test. The video may make you cringe, but don’t worry, because its author assures us that no iPods were harmed in its making. We only wish that the back of the touch was as resistant as the screen.
They should have made the screen out of sapphire and the body out of tungsten carbide. Then it really would be scratch proof.

Jason: i’ve heard that sand or sandpaper will scratch glass, so perhaps there was a grain of sand or something in your pocket that scraped across the screen.

…and guess what. I now have a nice long scratch on the face of my iPod touch
I’ve been carrying it in my pocket with my (plastic) cell phone… guess a bit of dirt got in there. Ah well. Time to look for some kind of face protector I guess.

Glass is made out of sand, so it has the same physical properties. Therefor sand and anything with higher “hardness-level” (forgot the english term
) could damage the screen.

is that what the kids are listening to these days?!
it’s sad to see corporate garbage be the music of choice for the youth today.
this is the effect that the importance of videos has had on music. Music that doesn’t also look good for the cameras won’t make it - unfortunatly the first casualty is - well - the music!
what is this $%** ?!

The screen is fantastic. You can get films for it that get rid of scratches. Surprisingly good substance and value from Apple, once again, thank you.

I actually like Fall Out Boy…
Great video now I feel a little more carefree about getting scratches on my screen. The back is messed up though…

I would be willing to bet that the people here who have scratches let someone wearing a ring use their iTouch. Rings have diamonds. Diamonds scratch glass. =)
Also, another thing that would tell you if it was scratched near your cell in your pocket is to look and see if there are any scratches on your cell…
