Danls92 is taking a look at various different headphones in a lengthy comparison and review - a Hack the iPod touch exclusive. Danls92 is an occasional writer for us here at Hack the iPod touch, and although his articles are published under my name they are fully written by himself.

headphonesSeeing as the holiday season has just passed, and I’m willing to bet a bunch of you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, I decided to do a head-to-head comparison rather than review each of the headphones independently. This way, you can see which headphone fits your need (and your price range) best. Below you’ll find a comparison chart, and a brief review of each with my impressions and opinions.

img_5635Today we’ll be taking a look at Griffin’s iClear case for the 1st-generation iPod touch. The play on words I took in the title of this review describes exactly what this case is: impressive. In fact, the guys over at iLounge gave this case their Best of the Year award for 2008.

This case is a two-piece case made of clear hard polycarbonate plastic. Griffin is offering this case at a discounted holiday price of only $9.99, a savings of $10, online at their website. And thanks to Jackie from Griffin, we’ll show you why this case is considered “best of the year”.

Add to that a design that prides itself on incredible detail to the most minor of issues including awe-inspiring graphics, and we have ourselves a product worth much more than the mere $6-$8.

iphone-unlocked-can-simable-unlock-iphone-300408The iPhone Dev Team wrote a post on their blog earlier today and shared some good (and some would say bad) news with us. With Christmas right around the corner, the Dev Team will be giving iPhone 3G users a nice Christmas present that has been long awaited. Unfortunately, that’s not the case for those with the 2G iPod touch.

when Many people are wondering what the status is on the 2nd-gen iPod touch jailbreak. And although we still can’t give you a specific date as to when it will be released, Chronic Dev seems to be making some significant progress towards a jailbreaking method.

Their team is currently working on reversing the bootrom, in order to create an exploit in the bootloader. More specifically, the way it parses (the way it analyzes and then acts on) files that are sent to it. This is because the bootrom for the 2nd-gen iPod touch processor (s5l7920x) signature checks the first bootloader (the Low Level Bootloader) that runs.

img_0103Apple has recently updated the App Store application on the iPod touch and iPhone to add sub-categories inside categories. For example, you can choose the Games category and from there you have a choice of sub-categories including action, adventure and arcade.

This is a great feature that many people have been waiting for. Sub-categories will eliminate the need to scroll and scroll through the selection of applications in the App Store, at least for the mean time. At the pace the App Store is currently headed (it’s already hit 10,000) I wouldn’t be surprised if there was sub-sub-categories added.

On the same topic, all you App Store enthusiasts should keep your eyes peeled for a series of App Store application reviews to follow. We’ll be taking a look at both new and popular applications - free and paid. An application reviews page will be added shortly, similar to the case reviews page we currently have. If you don’t know already, you can find these pages under the menu on the right.
