Today we’ll be taking a look at Griffin’s iClear case for the 1st-generation iPod touch. The play on words I took in the title of this review describes exactly what this case is: impressive. In fact, the guys over at iLounge gave this case their Best of the Year award for 2008.
This case is a two-piece case made of clear hard polycarbonate plastic. Griffin is offering this case at a discounted holiday price of only $9.99, a savings of $10, online at their website. And thanks to Jackie from Griffin, we’ll show you why this case is considered “best of the year”.

Luxury, class, and exclusivity all at a low price.
Add to that a design that prides itself on incredible detail to the most minor of issues including awe-inspiring graphics, and we have ourselves a product worth much more than the mere $6-$8.
From an innovative, reusable vinyl film (adhesive backing) to the protective coating, iStyles really do go far and beyond to provide a quality product lasting you, the consumer, for many years to come.

The iPhone Dev Team wrote a post on their blog earlier today and shared some good (and some would say bad) news with us. With Christmas right around the corner, the Dev Team will be giving iPhone 3G users a nice Christmas present that has been long awaited. Unfortunately, that’s not the case for those with the 2G iPod touch.

Many people are wondering what the status is on the 2nd-gen iPod touch jailbreak. And although we still can’t give you a specific date as to when it will be released, Chronic Dev seems to be making some significant progress towards a jailbreaking method.
Their team is currently working on reversing the bootrom, in order to create an exploit in the bootloader. More specifically, the way it parses (the way it analyzes and then acts on) files that are sent to it. This is because the bootrom for the 2nd-gen iPod touch processor (s5l7920x) signature checks the first bootloader (the Low Level Bootloader) that runs.
Apple has recently updated the App Store application on the iPod touch and iPhone to add sub-categories inside categories. For example, you can choose the Games category and from there you have a choice of sub-categories including action, adventure and arcade.
This is a great feature that many people have been waiting for. Sub-categories will eliminate the need to scroll and scroll through the selection of applications in the App Store, at least for the mean time. At the pace the App Store is currently headed (it’s already hit 10,000) I wouldn’t be surprised if there was sub-sub-categories added.
On the same topic, all you App Store enthusiasts should keep your eyes peeled for a series of App Store application reviews to follow. We’ll be taking a look at both new and popular applications - free and paid. An application reviews page will be added shortly, similar to the case reviews page we currently have. If you don’t know already, you can find these pages under the menu on the right.
An exciting new theme to bring to all of you!

Today we’ll be taking a look at Belkin’s Leather Sleeve for the 1st-generation iPod touch. I purchased this case from Future Shop, the Canadian equivalent of Best Buy (even though we have a few of those here too), and I was quite impressed with the design and quality.
As a Belkin standard, this leather sleeve is inside clear packaging which clearly displays the case and it’s features, something we’ll focusing on in this review. Continue reading for the full in-depth review of Belkin’s Leather Sleeve for the 1st-generation iPod touch.

Catchy slogan, good looks, and oh so much more. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to describing the Shade for the iPod touch 1st gen in just a few, short words. From diverse color choice to surprising affordability,$16.95, Shades really do go far and beyond with a lot of bang for your buck along the way.

And that’s far from all. We’ll also be taking a look at Gecko Gear’s neoprene sleeve for a 13″ MacBook, and although not an Apple product, a look at PDair’s aluminum case for the HTC Touch smartphone. There’s more, so keep reading for a more detailed look at what’s in store this week at Hack the iPod touch.
It’s becoming more evident that a jailbreaking tool for the new 2nd-generation (2G) iPod touch is unlikely - at least from the iPhone Dev Team. The members of this development team have labeled the task of unlocking the 3G iPhone as their top priority right now, and left 2nd-gen iPod touch owners hanging with their comment, “we are not looking at the iPod touch 2G at the moment.”
But just has long is “at the moment” going to be? User ledhendrixman over at iPod touch Fans found a few interesting comments made by members of the iPhone Dev Team in regards to the 2nd-gen iPod touch jailbreak. Continue reading to find out what the team members had to say and for the full scoop on the progress of the 2nd-gen jailbreak.
