Chronic Dev at Par

Chronic Dev is back in the jailbreaking scene with their latest developments on the iPod touch 2G jailbreak. While some might have thought this development team wen’t AWOL after the iPhone Dev Team announced their own 2G jailbreak, redsn0w, that’s not entirely true. Sure, the team backed off for a while and congratulated the iPhone Dev Team on their accomplishment, but only because they were hard at work towards their own iPod touch 2G jailbreak. They’ve codenamed it 0wnboot and have uploaded a video to Qik to explain:

Chronic Dev mentions on their blog that they are now at par with the iPhone Dev Team as this is the same exploit. Sadly, that means that this jailbreak is also tethered. On the other hand, it’s a good thing because it provides some friendly competition between the teams which could speed up their progress. That doesn’t mean these teams are against each other though because in the end the main goal is that the iPod touch 2G is successfully jailbroken.

Rumors were going around that Chronic Dev would release their untethered iPod touch 2G jailbreak at 10AM GMT (that’s British time), but we can confirm that this is not true. Just like redsn0w, there’s no confirmed date for the release, so just sit back and be patient. That word seems to be getting dull but it’ll be worth the wait. Whoever may release the jailbreak, good luck to both.
