FOLLOW-UP: My speculation and predictions on redsn0w were completely incorrect, and redsn0w is actually the iPod touch 2G jailbreak. You can view the whole post about it on the iPhone Dev Team’s blog here.
So we’ve all seen yellowsn0w.com, but there’s a new color of snow to hit the web: redsn0w.com. Yellowsn0w was set up by the iPhone Dev Team and redirects you to their 3G unlock, but we can’t give you much detail as to what redsn0w is. If you visit the site, all you’re presented with is a picture that has been constantly changing. It’s gone from the typical pwnage pineapple, to a dog, and even to a picture of the Teletubbies.
One thing that we can confirm is that it is running on the same servers as yellowsn0w.com, so it belongs to the iPhone Dev Team. It could have something to do with a 2G iPod touch jailbreak, but at this point it’s highly unlikely. But if the iPhone Dev Team has been hiding something up their sleeves this whole time, today would be their day to tell us. As of this post it’s Sunday, and on the Dev Team’s clock that means funday. A little term that they like to use when they have their own little show-and-tell.
The iPhone Dev Team has yet to comment about it on their blog, nor do we know if they ever will. They could very well be pranking us, and getting a good laugh in. But we might as well be optimistic about it and hope for the best – just don’t be too surprised when what you were hoping for doesn’t happen.
Yeah, someone on the IRC said that the teletubbies could represent the differnt sn0ws. Bluesn0w, yellowsn0w, redsn0w. No greensn0w though.

I dont think they have it done, I just think it is the name of their project and they have nothing to put on there yet so they are adding the suspense by putting up random pictres

Apparently the members of iPhone Dev are in their own IRC channel right now talking about us and laughing thinking that it’s a 2G jailbreak.
So that just proves my point even more that this doesn’t relate to the 2G jailbreak.

Both YellowSn0w and RedSnow have privacy companies in the whois record so that means nothing.
Both YellowSnow and RedSnow domains share the same IP address though. It is a safe bet that redsn0w is the dev team.

BTW, redsn0w may be the permanent unlock for the 3G. That is the holy grail. As opposed to the run time injection that relies on a baseband exploit.
MuscleNerd had posted on twitter that they had the bootrom, and in his talk he said they want to break to the chain of trust early in the process. It would be more permanent then finding a new injection vector everytime there is an update.

This IS the 2g jailbreak guys! THINK ABOUT IT! When they said they weren’t working on it, they were lying. They said a month or two back that they had a crate of ipod touch’s waiting for them. They have the touches. Even on the redsn0w twitter, it says that they are loading warez into their ipt2g’s. A hint? It’s the jailbreak.

RedSn0w is definitely the 2G jailbreak.
The image currently on the right (wednesday) is a BBC TV test card, and might mean “please wait” or “technical difficulties”
The image currently in the center is from the new chip in the 2g, they might now be trying to work with the chip.
Red snow is also the name for a british thermonuclear device, an episode of twilight zone, and snow algae – but algae wasn’t mentioned in their post.
So, It has something to do with Britain, and not algae. I wonder…
