CoreyCases
So it’s actually called CoreCases. But, I would like to thank Corey from CoreCases’ customer service for the donation of two aluminum cases for the 1st-generation iPod touch. And quite frankly, CoreyCases sounds way cooler. To the CoreCases team, especially Corey, your donation is greatly appreciated.
The CoreCases aluminum slider case for the 1st-generation iPod touch is available online at CoreCases’ website, for the price of $19.95 USD, and iLounge has given this case a good recommendation. In fact, the price gets even better - if you use the promotion code THEMANTLE upon the purchase of this case, you save an extra $5.00.
When I first opened the package that was shipped to me from CoreCases, I was quite impressed. The packaging of these cases is simple, clean and white. I believe it’s the perfect color as Apple tends to use the color white a lot in their products - especially Mac. The packaging is quite similar to that of Case-Mate’s Signature Leather case that I reviewed. It’s a rectangular case that is flip-top, with plastic packaging that slides out.
CoreCases’ aluminum slider case is available in both silver and black. What I like about this case is that it is a snug fit, protecting your iPod touch against scratches and dents. As a case standard, this case leaves openings for the ambient light sensor, sleep/wake button, home button as well as the headphone jack and dock connector. Some cases tend to be forget about the ambient light sensor, which throws off the auto-brightness feature on the iPod.
With this case, you can still use a dock such as an iHome, which is definitely a pro. Another pro to this case is that it leaves sufficient room to press the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons down, rather than some other cases which can make this task difficult. The case covers the complete back of the iPod, protecting the shiny aluminum that can easily be scratched. So, when you’re on-the-go with your iPod, you don’t need to worry.
The case is made of brushed aluminum, which gives the case a sleek design. One flaw about this brushed aluminum is that is can be easily scratched. The scratches stand out more on the silver case, so if you’re worried about this I would recommend purchasing this case in the color black. Another flaw about this case is that because it is made of aluminum it can be very slippery to hold. On the other hand, if you could flip this case inside out, you would see that there is a foam lining on the inside of this case, which is great for extra protection.
The aluminum casing is hard and durable, and is hardly flexible. Putting this case onto your iPod touch is a simple process, and simply involves sliding the case on (hence why the case is called an aluminum slider). This is an innovative idea by CoreCases, and surely makes the task of using this case with your iPod a breeze. Taking the case off of your iPod also involves sliding, but vice verse.
As you can see above, this case is a two-piece set. Sadly, no accessories are included such as polishing cloths or screen protectors. Although, CoreCases now includes a free screen protector with the purchase of a 2nd-generation iPod touch case, for all you up-to-date iPod touch users out there.
This case looks good when in use. It does not get in the way with the screen, and gives the iPod a professional, sleek look. Whether you be watching videos, listening to music, browsing photos or using an application - this case doesn’t interfere.
In conclusion, this case provides good protection with a professional look. The choice of colors silver or black can be a tough decision. If you’re not worried about a few possible scratches, there aren’t many flaws with this case. Plus, for the low price of $14.95 after using a promotion code (listed above), there’s nothing to loose! And while I disagree with CoreCases slogan “…nothing comes close,” they’re not too far off from being one of the top iPod case companies around. Overall, I give this case a rating of 9/10.
