Apps on itouch

The TIFF jailbreak, among other things, allows for the installation of new applications on the iPod touch. Tonight, we tested compatibility with the iPhone apps that the touch is missing, and, unsurprisingly, they worked. We have started an iPod touch application compatibility database on the iPodTouchFans wiki and posted our results. Pictures of the iPhone applications running on the iPod are after the jump.

I apologize for the quality, but my iPhone was the only camera handy and I wanted to get this online ASAP

  4. Dominik says:

Great! Does that mean I can now get the Calendar application from an iPhone and replace the one on the iPod so I can finally edit/enter events? Non-editable events in the Calendar is the only reason that keeps me from getting a Touch.

  24. James says:

mine almost bricked now i cant get it to even restore cause i was try’n to jailbreak it!

  25. Dvid says:

can we use installer.app to install iphone apps?

  26. Drew says:

If anybody has any tries to Jailbreak it and ends up messing it up and can’t restore it than do this:

-Plug your Touch into your computer
-Once it has come up in iTunes then Hold the Home and On/ Off button on the Touch but don’t let go for about 30 seconds or so. Basically until you reset it and get passed the Apple logo and the symbol will pop up signaling to connect it to iTunes.
-From there, bring up iTunes if you haven’t already and it will say something about detecting an iPod in disk mode.
-You most likely can figure out what to do from this point. Just run through the process of restoring the iPod Touch and resyncing and you should be good to go.

Don’t follow this to a T because I did this process yesterday after some searching on the internet and didn’t really write down step by step of what to do. This was all just from memory. Hope I was of some help!

  27. Ian says:

I did the windows tutorial for it and it worked beautifully I put the iphone apps on now my touch looks like the one in the pictures swweeeeeet!

  30. Thomas says:

i did the restore the drew said but it didn’t work im i screwed or is there something else i can do

  31. aaron says:

how do i get the stuff you got on my ipod touch

  32. Drew says:

    For Thomas:
If I recall, this is the website I used to do the restoring:
    http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Recovery_Mode

I know it talks about using the iPhone in particular but it should still work on the Touch. I’ve pretty positive it was the site I used when I was restoring my Touch.
If worse comes to worse, just wait for more detailed instructions to come out about Jailbreak on the Touch before you give up. It’s very early and new things may be revealed to make Jailbreaking easier. I mean if all you did was just visit the site (the one that crashes Safari), than you just did the first step of Jailbreaking your Touch! In time, simpler and more detailed guides will be made, so if you can’t figure out how to restore it, then maybe you might just have to wait a little bit till a better guide surfaces.

I mean look at this site, you see a million questions and only a handful of answers. That means only a few people really know how to answer them and no one has attempted it to the extent to be knowledgeable.

  33. Nils says:

I’m all for jailbreaking my touch, but where do I find the apps to install onto it? Where do I find mail, calender, mapps, etc? Is there a website which would have these?

  38. Tod says:

Yo Ive only recently gotten into hacking my iPod and I wanted to how i should start out

  39. Help. says:

If apple comes out with a new firmware update and our touch breaks can we just restore it or will that screw it up to. And did the iphones brick because they were unlocked or because of third party apps and jailbreak?

  40. andrew says:

I installed the 1.1.1 iphone mail.app, weather.app, stocks.app, map.app… but only weather.app works. All the others ones hang when they are open for about 5-10 seconds and then crash.

Is there a another file i need to put somewhere else?

  41. Mychal says:

Hacked my iPod today. Noticed a delay in the appearance of the theme wallpaper upon startup in SummerBoard. Anyone have an idea what that is about?

  42. andrew says:

Ok i put the framework and the bundle in the appropriate folders, rebooted and mail.app still crashes, map.app, and stocks.app as well

  43. Vive la FRANCE! says:

For the Jailbreak, go to iJailbreak.com or search ‘iJailbreak’ on google. On the website, you can find further information. Or go to YouTube, search iJailbreak and watch the tutorial video(s). They are really great and a good manual for jailbreaking the iPod Touch. Good luck everybody!

  44. Alicia says:

FYI the ijailbreak app works great! Found it via ipodjailbreak.com
Loaded the Nintendo Emulator and now I have games on my ipod touch!!
    Yippee!

  45. sraya111 says:

i want to install some apps but i cant find anywhere how to do it.. can someone explain please??

  46. Andrew says:

I read summerboard is not suppose to work just by installing it on the ipod touch. you have to do another hack to make it work. there’s a youtube video on it.

  47. leehoss says:

If you are having problems with Mail or Maps not working it could be because you are missing the GMM.framework from iPhone 1.1.1…. Does anyone now where to get hold of this if you don’t have an iphone?

  48. elkaybrooklyn says:

Thanks for your hard work on this, it’s really awesome.

I got jailbreak all set up on my ipod touch. I’m interested in installing the iPhone version of Calendar, but I don’t know where I can get this. It’s not part of the iPhone apps that you have posted here: http://rapidshare.com/files/61867543/iPhone_1.1.1_Apps.zip

Does anyone know where I can get the iPhone calendar to install on my iPod Touch?

  49. elkaybrooklyn says:

Oh, also, I’m syncing my iPod Touch with two different Macs (both running 10.4.somethingorother). I did the jailbreak using one machine. If I sync the Touch with the other machine, will that mess anything up?

  50. elkaybrooklyn says:

oh, read the instructions more carefully on http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Jailbreak_Guide and I got the Calendar app fixed!! I’m so psyched.

But, now I have another question. Every time I reboot my Touch, the built-in Touch applications (Music, Videos, Photos and iTunes) appear briefly at the bottom of the springboard (as they used to before the hack) and then there is a beep, and the four of them move up to the top of the screen, on top of some of my other apps (safari, youtube, calendar, and contacts). I can still get these apps to work, but I really would like to move these built in apps down to the bottom of the screen where they belong.

    Any suggestions?

  51. CIRCA says:

All you guys that are having trouble jailbraking your iPod touch, should try subscribing to ipodtouchmaster’s (ipodtouchmaster) videos he’ll show you how to jailbreak your iPod touch on the first try, and he has video’s on a lot of other stuff for the iPod like having five icons on the bottom of your iPod or changing the order of all your third party apps. I really recomend that you try it. :)

  52. ... says:

hey when are you going to make this available to anyone? cuz i have an ipod touch, and id really like to get them…oh i was also wondering what happens if you fill the home screen up? and does “Mail” work anywhere? thanks

  53. SamV says:

Wanna brick your pod, go ahead. Did not work on G4 PPC. Had to restore and sync all my stuff. Works for some, not for others, as I can see by the various responses. I’ll wait for a complete installer package that does not require you to crash Safari to cause a buffer overflow to hack the chroot. This is my toy not my organiser. I carry a BlackBerry to manage my day to day dealings. My pod is my entertainment gadget, I see it for what it is, a wonderful music player, light web browser and a hell of a movie player to keep me amused on the train ride into work. I’ll leave all that crap to the geeks, I have enough geek work on enterprise level stuff to keep me more than busy. Cheers!

  54. nate says:

CAN someone tell me how to get the apps downloaded onto my MAC and where to get them(i heard something about submitting a compatibility report??)

  55. Cris says:

How do i actually INSTALL this apps

  56. Patrick says:

Hey, just go to http://jailbreakme.com on the safari browser or your ipod touch OR iphone…(works on both)….the safari browser will crash and your ipod will be jailbroken. The preferred apps to install are the BSD subsystems, Summerboard (not the old one), and OpenSSH. After you install these I think that most apps will work.

  57. nick says:

dude the calender on the touch is editable

  58. Myke says:

You are only able to edit the calendar entries after installing the V1.1.2 update.

The Touch is unable to add/edit calendar entries fresh out of the box.

  59. Jl says:

I just got my ipod touch..
    the calendar is editable.

  60. jordy says:

for elkaybrooklyn: If you have installer.app, open it en look in the map tweaks for: Touch Calendar Fix, install it and you will allow to edit and make new events.

  61. Matt says:

That is great, but where are the apps on installer
I’ve browsed back and forth over and over but i just can’t find maps
and i want it soo bad

  62. Sam says:

Anyone got a tutorial or guide on how to do this?
