iPod touch users report rotation glitches

Accelerometer issues

iPod touch users are reporting glitchy behavior when rotating their iPods. Sometimes the switching from horizontal to vertical or vice versa works fine, but at other times there are delays or the rotation does not even occur at all. The accelerometer, the hardware which detects the rotation, is a first generation feature in Apple’s consumer electronics (though it has existed in their laptops for a long time in order to protect hard-drives). It is unclear whether this is a hardware issue or if Apple still needs to tweak the sensitivity in a future software update. Either way, a useful feature we would like to see in a future update is the ability to lock a certain screen rotation.
